A DESIGN PROBLEM 06

A Design Problem brought together design enthusiasts once again in its new season and new venue. Through the creative solutions they developed for the challenges encountered in their projects at different scales, the speakers inspired the audience. At the event organized by ArcheThink, Kurtul Erkmen, Ayça Taylan, and Tamer Nakışçı shared the difficulties they faced in their design processes and the innovative solutions they devised to overcome them. In this gathering, three design practices working at different scales presented their creative solutions, developed with a deep respect for İstanbul’s heritage.Tamer Nakışçı shared his project centered around a narrow, unused space squeezed between two buildings in Karaköy, describing it as “an encounter that revitalizes the city’s cultural memory.” Ayça Taylan narrated her design story, reimagining İstanbul’s iconic street vendors within the dynamics of the moderncity. Kurtul Erkmen took the audience through the challenges of transforming the 200-year-old Feshane building into a cultural and arts center.

A DESIGN PROBLEM 05

In the event organized by ArcheThink, Global designers Mehmet Mehmetalioğlu, Tuğçe Rizeli Bilgi and Koray Duman shared with the participants the challenges they faced in their design processes and the solutions they developed for these challenges. Mehmet Mehmetalioğlu discussed how we can reduce loneliness and isolation with the power of design with his presentation “The Door Opening to Loved Ones”. Tuğçe Rizeli Bilgi, with her presentation titled “The Perception Game”, discussed the eûect of indoor and outdoor boundaries on our perception and design approaches that blur these boundaries. Koray Duman, in his presentation “Reaching for Space”, shared the transformation of MoMa PS1 in Long Island City and the design ideas developed to make this space a public space again.

A DESIGN PROBLEM 04

In the event organized by ArcheThink, Deniz Aslan, Nilüfer Kozikoğlu, and Kerem Erginoğlu shared with the participants the challenges they faced in their design processes and the solutions they developed for these challenges. Deniz Aslan shared the process of rebuilding the ecosystem of a lost site in his presentation “An Ecosystem Story.” In the fourth event of the “A Design Problem” series, Nilüfer Kozikoğlu shared her presentation titled “Designing The Lightness” and the design of “Alveosis,” which combines lightness and robustness. Kerem Erginoğlu shared the process of revitalizing the historical and local texture of a village in his presentation.

A DESIGN PROBLEM 03

In the event organized by ArcheThink, Atilla Kuzu, Arzu Kaprol and Durmuş Dilekci shared with the participants the challenges they faced in their design processes and the innovative solutions they developed for these challenges. In his presentation “Fluid Unity”, Atilla Kuzu explained how he applies his inspiration from nature in his designs. Arzu Kaprol, in her presentation titled “To Think Like Antarctica,” explained the design process of the protective suit suitable for extreme conditions that she designed for scientists in Antarctica in cooperation with TÜBİTAK. Durmuş Dilekci shared his experience of preserving an existing building and transforming it in accordance with the principles of sustainability with his presentation titled “Building without Destroying”.

A DESIGN PROBLEM 02

In the event organized by ArcheThink, Emre Kuzlu, Melike Altınışık, and Caner Bilgin shared with the participants the challenges they faced in their design processes and the innovative solutions they developed for these challenges. Emre Kuzlu presented his project titled “Designing the Journey.” Kuzlu told the story of raki that could not reach the consumer through advertising and the design process that took place in the factory in Alaşehir. Melike Altınışık, “Architecture of the Future: Human, Robot, Artificial Intelligence Collaboration.” She shared the design process of Seoul Robot and Artificial Intelligence Museum with the audience. Caner Bilgin presented his project titled “Dialogue with the Earth.” Bilgin explained how he solved the facade design of the administration building in Karapınar Plain with the help of technology.

A DESIGN PROBLEM 01

In the event organized by ArcheThink, Ali Faruk Göksu, Han Tümertekin, and Yeşim Kozanlı shared with the participants the challenges they faced in their design processes and the solutions they developed for these challenges. Ali Faruk Göksu told the transformation story of Pancar Warehouse. Han Tümertekin told the story of the new staircase he designed for the Maiden's Tower, one of the symbolic buildings of Istanbul. Yeşim Kozanlı talked about the design problem they solved to create fluidity between 5 historical buildings on different levels while shaping the entrance area of the hotel they designed in Prague.
